Act I. As the story begins, we learn that Chief
Brown Bear, upon Mary's advice, has taken the Kadota's claim to the land to
the courts. Meanwhile, Mary, the foster-daughter of Chief Brown Bear, has
fallen behind on her mortgage payment to the United States government for the
land on which her Inn stands. The Forest Rangers have arrived in the area, in
the midst of tracking down a disruptive group of Indians. They come across
several young ladies staying at the inn who are on vacation from the
Eastchester Finishing School. Captain Jim tells Mary that the leader of the
wayward Indians is Yellow Feather, who turns out to be Brown Bear's son,
thought dead, and who threatened to harm Mary. Captain Jim and Fleet Foot set
off to find Yellow Feather.
Act II. General Fairfax arrives, assumes command
of the Rangers, and sends them off to find Captain Jim so as to have the
ladies to himself. Outside at night, Mary is captured and tied to a tree by
Yellow Feather, but is rescued by Captain Jim. The Rangers, who have
surrounded the Inn, capture Yellow Feather as he tries to escape. Fairfax then
tells everyone that the United States government has decided in Brown Bear's
favour, and so Brown Bear gives Mary the land that the Inn stands on,
rendering the rest as a national park

The charming and sentimental story, based on fact, is
set in Austria just prior to the Anchsluss and tells how Maria, a young
noviciate nun, is sent back into the outside world for a trial period as it is
felt that she is too young and high spirited to be ready to take her vows. She
is given the task of becoming a governess to the seven children of the widowed
Captain von Trapp and soon wins the hearts of the entire household. Before
long she has organised the children into a choir but when von Trapp's friend,
the impressario Max Detweiler, suggests that they should compete at the
Salzburg Folk Festival the Captain refuses. His fiancé Baronness Elsa Schaeder,
jealous of Maria's popularity, suggests that the girl has fallen in love with
the Captain. Knowing that this true, Maria returns to the Abbey, but the
Mother Abbess (Patricia Routledge) sends her back to face the situation. Elsa
realising that the Captain loves Maria, leaves. Maria now accepts the Captain
proposal and they are married at the Abbey but they have to cut short their
honeymoon when Austria is overrun by the Nazis. On arriving home, they find
that Max has gone against the Captain's order and entered the children in the
festival. Under cover of the excitement caused by the Festival, where they win
first prize, they flee the country across the mountains and go on to become
the world famous Trapp Family Singers.

Published in 1847, Wuthering Heights was not well
received by the public, many condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural.
Emily Bronte died in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was
not until 1850, when Wuthering Heights received a second printing with an
introduction by Emily's sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership.
And from that point the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it
is widely recognized as one of the great novels of English literature. Even
so, Wuthering Heights continues to divide readers. It is not a pretty love
story. It is rather a swirling tale of largely unlikable people caught up in
obsessive love that turns to dark madness. It is cruel, violent, dark and
brooding, and many people find it extremely unpleasant. And yet it possesses a
grandeur of language and design, a sense of tremendous pity and great loss
that sets it apart from virtually every other novel written.
