'A Passage to India' to 'Doctor Who', Clive Swift
is one of our best-loved actors.
Clive is also a
composer, lyricist, broadcaster and accomplished raconteur and in Edinburgh
will be shared tales and anecdotes from his wide-raging career.
From humble
beginnings at Cambridge, Clive was one of the first actors in the
newly-formed RSC. There followed and extraordinary and varied career working
with some of the biggest names in theatre, TV, film and radio. Clive will
take you on a journey that covers the highs and the lows of an actor's
lot-finishing up with life beyond the enormous successful 'Keeping Up
Appearances'.
Not content with
simply talking, Clive will also be performing his own songs. But don't worry
he is joined by guest Claire Greenway to keep him on track and to help him
reach those high notes.
Clive has written 'Richard
Bucket Overflows!' as a reminder that he's had a long, versatile career (not
just 'poor Richard'!). Staying 8 years with the Royal Shakespeare Company in
the 1960s-there's only a handful of the canon he hasn't played-Clive has
frequently appeared on London Provincial stages, Including 3 Chichester
Festival Seasons and a tour of 23 US states.
His TV work began (live!) in
1961 with a Mordecai Richler Love Story; since when major roles include
Bagstock (DOMBEY & SON), Inspector Waugh (WAUGH ON CRIME), Huggins (SOUTH
RIDING), Benbow (CLAYHANGER), Proudie (BARCHESTER CHRONICLES), Tupman
(PICKWICK PAPERS), Shorthouse (PEAK PRACTICE), Rev. Brewer (BORN AND BRED),
and soon, Mr Copper (DOCTOR WHO).
Clive's a regular radio
performer, poems being a speciality. His feature films include THE NATIONAL
HEALTH, FRENZY, EXCALIBUR and A PASSAGE TO INDIA.
