Biography

>>> After long weeks spent in a basement during the war, Patricia, nicknamed "Pat", attended Birkenhead high school where her big and loud personality did not stay unnoticed. She there sang in the choir and successfully ran the Sunday school which made her want to become a school headmistress. Patricia then worked as an unpaid assistant stage manager at the Liverpool playhouse where she observed with passion and envy actors at work. She secretly learned from them before finally and unexpectedly end up on the stage herself. More fascinated than ever by the acting world, she decided

to push her study further at the Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol and moved to London where she started an impressive career. Talented in many ways, Patricia Routledge is not only a wonderful actress but also an excellent singer. Her strong and beautiful voice can reach low and high notes which bought her to the world of musicals and earned her numerous prizes. Always curious, she was constantly seduced by challenges and did a wide range of  awarded jobs for the theatre, cinema, television and radio. She even appeared in her One Woman Show (Come for the Ride in 1988) and recorded her own song CD. Patricia's success did not stop on London stages, she also appeared on Broadway before becoming worldwide famous and loved for her most successful role in "Keeping up appearances" as Hyacinth Bucket. Sadly for KUA fans, Patricia decided to leave the show, giving it a definite end, to explore even more horizons and not being seen as Hyacinth Bucket for the rest of her life.

Patricia never married or had children and now lives in Kensington London and Surrey when not working. For the enjoyment of all her fans, she does not want to hear about retirement and says: "As long as there are exciting invitations, and as long as I feel i can respond to them properly, on we go!".
